Inside the CCD

UChicago Medicine Center for Care and Discovery - Hyde Park is one of the largest buildings on our Hyde Park medical campus. The building opened in 2013. It was created with a flexible design that makes it easy to update the space as we continually incorporate new technology and expand our treatment options. Spacious and easy to navigate, the CCD fosters more collaboration among clinicians and staff while making it easy to actively engage our patients and families in medical care.

All of the CCD's inpatient rooms are private, single occupancy spaces, which are spacious enough to accommodate your family for overnight stays.

Our patient rooms are on the perimeter of the building, which gives you more privacy — and quiet time — as you recover. Warm ginger and maple tones give the rooms a cozy, residential feel. And large windows provide spectacular views of the University of Chicago’s historic campus, Lake Michigan and Chicago’s famous skyline.

Each room has a flat-screen TV, a reading light and dual-layer window coverings that include a blackout layer to darken the room so everyone can sleep better. Our state-of-the-art paging system does not rely on overhead announcements, which means rooms are quieter for you and your families. Other in-room amenities include WiFi and room service.

Hours of operation may be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. See more information about dining hours.

SKY Cafe

The Sky Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and is located just off the Sky Lobby on the CCD's 7th floor.

Hours: Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week

The CCD’s novel design extends to its public spaces. Our main lobby, known as the Sky Lobby, is located on building’s seventh floor. It features floor-to-ceiling glass walls, which fill the space with natural light and provide panoramic views of Hyde Park and downtown Chicago. Other Sky Lobby features include:

  • Captivating artwork
  • Central reception and check-in area
  • Chapel
  • Family waiting areas
  • Food court and coffee shop
  • Occasional live music performances through our hospital’s healing arts program
