Patient Meals
We understand that an important part of a patient’s hospital stay is the quality and variety of meals. That’s why we offer room service and a restaurant-style menu for our inpatients and their visitors. Our menu was created with patient insights to create a delicious and healthy dining experience containing high-quality, fresh ingredients.
Room service dining is available on all inpatient units in the Center for Care and Discovery, Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital and in Comer Children's Hospital.

After you are admitted, a staff member will meet with you to review any diet orders you have from your physician (for example, a low-salt diet).
Menu specialists work with patients and their families, as well as the patient’s nurses, to ensure selections comply with dietary requirements. All food requests are checked against physicians’ orders to ensure the food is appropriate for the patient.
All meals are prepared fresh when ordered. Patients can select meals from a wide array of options based on their diet order. This includes freshly made omelets, deli sandwiches, home-style entrees and grilled items. Kosher, halal, vegetarian and other specialty options are available.
Patients can order meals any time between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., and can expect delivery within 45 minutes.
After hours, boxed lunches and snacks are available. Ask your nurse for details.

Food services staff can assist patients who need help ordering meals. Alternatively, a patient’s family may also order for their family member by dialing extension 4-3000 when in the hospital or calling 773-834-3000 when outside the hospital.
Rest assured that patients who cannot or do not order from the menu will receive meals at predetermined times. The meal will reflect any diet orders from their physicians.
Yes, guest meals are available. They can be ordered by dialing extension 4-3000. Guest meals cost $8 at Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital and the Center for Care and Discovery, and $6 at Comer Children’s Hospital. You can pay for guest meals with a credit card over the phone or with cash or a credit card at the bedside when the meal is delivered.
