Omer Doron, MD, PhD, is a neurosurgeon with expertise in endovascular and cerebrovascular neurosurgery and provides multidisciplinary care to his patients as a member of the neurovascular team.
For comprehensive care, Dr. Doron performs both minimally invasive and open microsurgical techniques, allowing him to diagnose and treat vascular diseases of the central nervous system, such as aneurysms, strokes, carotid disease and vascular malformations. In addition to neurovascular surgery, Dr. Doron also delivers general neurosurgical care, treating patients with a wide range of conditions, including brain tumors, hydrocephalus and head trauma.
Through studying ischemic patients with reduced vascular reserve, Dr. Doron can identify good candidates for re-vascularization procedures, in addition to his clinical focus on minimally invasive evacuation of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) – one of the most complex forms of stroke.
Dr. Doron believes that neurosurgical care is not limited to before, during and immediately after care, but is part of an ongoing healthcare journey. He helps his patients understand their condition(s) and clearly explains their treatment options. By partnering with his patients, they navigate their neurosurgery care together, empowering patients to be active in their care with informed, joint decision-making.
Along with his clinical practice, Dr. Doron is active in clinical and basic science research, developing new treatments, tools, devices and techniques designed to improve care and safety for neurosurgical patients. With a PhD in biomedical engineering, Dr. Doron is an expert in brain hemodynamics and neurohydrodynamics. He is the inventor of several patents, and has co-founded a neurotech company in the field of brain perfusion. He is active in the neuro-related medical start-up arena helping companies to translate clinical unmet needs into medical devices to improve care, specializing in proof-of-concept models and experimental design.
Currently, he is evaluating flow-coupling and pressure wave transfer in the cranial vascular tree in order to develop innovative minimally invasive approaches to address neurosurgical conditions like brain trauma and elevated intracranial pressure (ICP).
His work has been published in several, highly respected, peer-reviewed clinical and basic science journals, like Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery, JNS, Operative Neurosurgery, World Neurosurgery, Acta Neurocirurgica, Neurocritical Care, CNS Fluid Barriers, NeuroImage and more. Dr. Doron also serves as an esteemed journal reviewer and has written numerous textbook chapters on the diagnosis and treatment of neurosurgical diseases.

Our list of accepted insurance providers is subject to change at any time. You should contact your insurance company to confirm UChicago Medicine participates in their network before scheduling your appointment. If you have questions regarding your insurance benefits at UChicago Medicine, please contact our financial counseling team at OPSFinancialCounseling@uchospitals.edu.
Some of our physicians and health professionals collaborate with external pharmaceutical, medical device, or other medical related entities to develop new treatments and products to improve clinical outcomes for patients. In some instances, the physician has ownership interests in the external entity and/or is compensated for advising or speaking about the entity’s products or treatments. These payments may include compensation for consulting and speaking engagements, equity, and/or royalties for products invented by our physicians. To assure objectivity and integrity in patient care, UChicago Medicine requires all physicians and health professionals to report their relationships and financial interests with external entities on an annual basis. This information is used to review relationships and transactions that might give rise to potential financial conflicts of interest, and when considered to be significant a management plan to mitigate any biases is created.
If you are a patient at UChicago Medicine and would like more information about your physician’s external relationships, please talk with your physician. You may also visit the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Open Payments website at https://openpaymentsdata.cms.gov/ . CMS Open Payments is a national disclosure program that promotes a more transparent and accountable health care system. It houses a publicly accessible database of payments that reporting entities, including drug and medical device companies, make to covered recipients like physicians and hospitals.
Information in the CMS Open Payments database could potentially contain inaccurately reported and out of date payment information. All information is open to personal interpretation, if there are questions about the data, patients and their advocates should speak directly to their health care provider for a better understanding.
