Alex Lois, MD, MS, is an advanced minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgeon who specializes in esophageal and gastric disorders. He has skill and experience in the surgical management of esophageal motility disorders, gastroesophageal reflux disease and paraesophageal hernia. Dr. Lois also has specific clinical expertise in treating hernias of the abdominal wall and groin, which includes performing complex abdominal wall reconstruction.
Dr. Lois’ approach to care uses a combination of advanced laparoscopic, robotic-assisted and open techniques to address gastrointestinal disorders and abdominal wall reconstruction. He works closely with members of a multidisciplinary team, including gastroenterology, nutrition and plastic surgery in treating his patients. He strives to provide compassionate and data-driven care, while engaging patients in thoughtful shared decision-making to ensure treatment decisions align with his patients’ goals and values.
Along with to his clinical practice, Dr. Lois is active in his field, serving on several committees of national professional societies and contributing research to advance the care of patients with quality-of-life limiting foregut diseases and hernias. With his background in health services research, Dr. Lois’ work also aims to identify and diminish barriers to high quality surgical care in the region and beyond.
