Employee Professional Development Offerings
Tuition Reimbursement Program
- In-Network Pre-licensure BSN Tuition Reimbursement (benefit eligible; non-nurses) provides unlimited tuition reimbursement for full-time employees; 50% tuition reimbursement for part time, including course related fees and books.
- Nursing In-Network Tuition Reimbursement provides unlimited tuition reimbursement for full-time nurses; 50% tuition reimbursement for part time, including course related fees for all degrees and books for BSNs.
- Nursing Out-of-Network Tuition Reimbursement provides reimbursement for schools not in the network but with CCNE/ACEN/NLNAC accreditation, specifically 100% up to $4,000 for full-time nurses; 100% up to $2,000 for part-time nurses (course related fees are not included).
- Non-Nursing Tuition Reimbursement provides reimbursement of 100% up to $4,000 for full-time employees; 100% up to $2,000 for part-time, plus bonus eligibility for accredited colleges or universities, in addition to professional organizations, schools and seminars/workshops.
Tuition Remission is 50% discounted tuition at the University of Chicago is available for eligible University of Chicago Medical Center employees, dependent children and spouses of residents/fellows.
UChicago Medicine offers a wide variety of both facilitator-led and self-paced training and career development programs, such as but not limited to:
- Coaching at the Forefront, a three-part series exploring the mindsets, toolsets and skillsets to be a successful leader-coach.
- Leading at the Speed of Trust, a course designed to teach about trust; what it is and how it is a learnable skill.
- Crucial Conversations, designed to teach anyone at any level the valuable communication tools needed to be successful when there are opposing opinions, strong emotions, and stakes are high.
- The 5 Choices to Extraordinary Productivity, this course will help participants identify what their priorities are as individuals as well as employees, and develop the mindsets, skillsets and toolsets to focus on accomplishing the most important goals, every day.

Training and Workforce Development Offerings

Through partnerships with local education providers, UChicago Medicine is proud to host student externs from a variety of programs and offer employment for graduates. We are a proud co-founder and supporter of the Chicagoland Healthcare Workforce Collaborative that unites healthcare employers and industry partners to develop innovative workforce solutions and respond to the emerging employment needs of our local sector.
The Inclusive Pathways Program (IPP) connects individuals with disabilities to meaningful, competitive employment opportunities, while also building the systems and supports to facilitate job retention.
UChicago Medicine has launched a nursing assistant training program with the goal of building a strong pipeline to fill our open Nursing Support Assistant (NSA) and Clinical Associate (CA) positions at the Hyde Park Campus and the Harvey Campus at Ingalls Memorial Hospital.
- Both the NSA Pathway Program and the CA Pathway Program take place over 8 weeks with participating education providers. Students enrolled in the program are hired into a part-time temporary position at the respective hospital and are guaranteed an interview post-completion. Program participation is open by selection to eligible community members and UCM part-time employees.
Rise Higher is a 12-week emerging leader program designed to equip frontline employees with fundamental technical training and mentorship, and support advancement into leadership roles.
The goal of Rise Higher is to provide a pathway to leadership for frontline employees, and promote diverse internal talent for management opportunities across the UChicago Medicine Health system.
The administrative fellowship at the University of Chicago Medicine serves to foster future health care leaders through opportunities to strengthen their understanding of hospital operations and management at an academic medical center. In this one-year program, fellows are mentored by and report to Krista Curell, System Chief Operating Officer. Fellows will also be assigned to a past fellow to connect with as an additional resource and guide throughout the year.
The Administrative Internship Program at the University of Chicago Medicine is an ideal launching point for those seeking to be among the next generation of health care leaders. Administrative interns at UChicago Medicine will have the opportunity to strengthen their understanding of hospital operations and hospital management in one of the nation's leading academic medical centers.
As a Fellow on the QPI team, be a change agent and partner with clinical and operational leaders across UCM to identify inefficiencies, develop solutions, and lead high priority improvement initiatives across the organization.
