Meet Dr. Lehmann
I'm Christopher Lehmann. I specialize in Infectious Diseases in both adults and children. And that means taking care of people who have an infection that need treatment or people who may not have an infection, but need testing to figure out if they do. And everything in between.
I first got interested in Infectious Diseases in high school, when I read the book The Hot Zone, which is about an Ebola virus. And is a very intriguing book and got me started down the pathway of microbiology. And then I realized I also liked people, and liked talking to them, learning about them. And being an Infectious Disease doctor is my way of doing both of those things.
University of Chicago is a cool place because it combines cutting edge medicine, technology, and science, and research, but puts it in a place where there's a lot of people that need help. Chicago's a big city with lots of people who go from the gamut of income, lifestyles, you name it. And here at the University we can take care of everybody.
My philosophy is to recognize that everyone is unique. Everybody comes with their own unique life experience that only they have had. And their unique life experience will continue on after I see them and take care of them. And it's just a joy to meet people. All of these unique people who have their own stories. A joy to be a part of that story.
So the philosophy I take is to be a part of that story and just make it better. Some parts of my experience that have been unique is that I have trained to become an Infectious Disease doctor in both pediatrics and adult medicine.
Usually those specialties are separated. Done by either pediatricians or internal medicine doctors. I did training in both pediatrics and internal medicine. And then I continued that combined training in both Infectious Diseases for adults and children.
In addition to that, I spent a lot of my early career on understanding the microbiome and figuring out how it relates to health and disease so that we can improve the microbiome to improve people's health.
