At the University of Chicago Medicine, we understand how stressful emergencies can be — especially when you are expecting a baby.

If you are at least 20 weeks pregnant:

You can get immediate, compassionate care at any time of day or night at the UChicago Medicine Family Birth Center Emergency Department.

We are located in the Family Birth Center at Comer Children’s Hospital in Hyde Park.

If you are less than 20 weeks pregnant:

Go to the Adult Emergency Department at the Center for Care and Discovery (CCD) in Hyde Park. Our emergency team will provide the immediate care you need.

A Full Range of Emergency Services

Our expert team offers highly personalized urgent and emergency care services for you and your baby, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We can evaluate you and your baby and provide immediate treatment when needed.

If you have pregnancy complications or your baby has a complex fetal condition, our multidisciplinary team can provide the highest level of care. We will also keep your other providers informed and arrange any other services that you and your baby might need.

Billing and Payment

When you come to the Family Birth Center Emergency Department, you will likely have a co-pay and get a bill for emergency services.
