At the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital, our pediatric neurologists are experts at diagnosing and treating complex disorders often viewed as untreatable elsewhere. Physicians from all over the world send us their young patients — particularly their most complex cases. We treat children and their families with respect and compassion, keeping you informed and involved from diagnosis through treatment.
Comer Children's physicians are trailblazers who use advanced imaging technologies to analyze the brain's anatomy and its electrical activity. The sophisticated diagnostic tools available here enable our pediatric neurologists to better diagnose and define disorders, which leads to more effective treatments.
Sophisticated Neurodiagnostic Testing
We are leaders in the field of non-invasive diagnostic testing — offering many tests that are not widely available elsewhere. Our sophisticated stereotactic 3D imaging techniques — pioneered at the UChicago Medicine — provide detailed information about the electrical activity inside the brain. Our doctors can simultaneously view the electrical activity inside a child's brain while also seeing a synchronized video and sound recording of the patient. This helps our epilepsy experts identify the exact source of seizures and the best possible treatment.
Internationally Known Genetics Team
Our genetics group serves as a national resource for families with genetic-related problems, as well as for referring physicians. Many state-of-the-art tests were developed here at UChicago Medicine. And we continue to be a genetics leader with the increase in the number of genetic tests now available thanks to the Human Genome Project. We also have relationships with other specialty genetic labs that can perform a wide range of complex diagnostic tests.
