Michael G. Earing, MD, Named Section Chief of Pediatric Cardiology
University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital has named Michael G. Earing, MD, as its new Section Chief, Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. Earing comes to Comer Children’s from Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, where he was a professor of internal medicine and pediatrics, medical director of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program and medical director of the Marfan and Related Connective Tissue Disorder program. He was also medical director of regional services for the Children’s Specialty Group and associate medical director of regional services for the Herma Heart Institute. In these roles, Dr. Earing is credited with developing one of the country’s top adult congenital heart programs. As Professor of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, he will also direct the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program for University of Chicago Medicine.
Michael G. Earing, MD, has also been appointed to serve as division director of pediatric cardiology for the clinical collaboration between the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital, Advocate Children’s Hospital and pediatrics at NorthShore University HealthSystem.
Dr. Earing joins Luca Vricella, MD, division director of cardiovascular surgery, in leading the overall pediatric heart program for the collaboration, which is called the Chicagoland Children’s Health Alliance (CCHA).

Dr. Earing earned his medical degree from Rush University Medical School and completed a residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center. He then completed both a pediatric cardiology and an adult congenital heart disease fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Dr. Earing also has a master’s in health administration from the University of Texas in Dallas. He is board certified in internal medicine, pediatrics, pediatric cardiology and adult congenital heart disease.
Dr. Earing will have offices at both Comer Children’s Hospital and Advocate Children’s Hospital-Oak Lawn.
