Two new websites help UChicago Medicine deliver messages to patients

August 3, 2016

Two new consumer websites will help current and future patients learn more about the award-winning care provided at the University of Chicago Medicine.

The sites -- a revamped Comer Children's hospital page and a new microsite dedicated to the medical center's soon-to-open Family Birth Center -- are the part of a larger institution-wide push to improve communication with patients and elevate the visibility of the Hyde Park academic medical center.

Both sites feature a vibrant and contemporary look with enhanced navigation and interactive functionality for an improved user experience. These sleek, responsive designs provide a tailored experience on desktop, tablet and mobile devices, and the high-visibility icons, captivating photos and curated content direct patients and visitors to the exact information they are seeking.

Both sites launched in July 2016.

"The contemporary designs and robust content reflect our reputation for being at the forefront of medicine," said Karen Stratton, PhD, RN, vice president of women's and children's services.

Comer Children's Hospital, which is part of the University of Chicago Medicine, is home to the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center on the city's South Side. It includes a 30-bed pediatric intensive care unit, one of the state's busiest neonatal intensive units and an array of general, specialty and subspecialty care for children of all ages. The hospital admits about 5,000 patients and accommodates nearly 37,000 outpatient clinics visits annually, offering everything from general care to groundbreaking treatments for the most complex medical conditions.

UChicago Medicine's new 25,000-square-foot Family Birth Center, located inside Comer Children's Hospital, expands high-quality obstetric and pediatrics services for expectant and new mothers and their babies. The space features nine private delivery and postpartum suites with high-quality care along with comfortable accommodations for families. The facility offers many traditional and natural childbirth options.
