Major League Baseball umpires show their softer side

Major League Baseball umpires show their softer side

July 2, 2007

What

Forget the Cubbie Bears. Major League Baseball (MLB) umpires prefer to give cheer with teddy bears. For the first time, BLUE for Kids--a non-profit organization founded by MLB umpires--brings its Big League BLUE Reach program to Chicago.

Through the program, umpires visit seriously ill children in hospitals around the country. Along with words of encouragement, they give each patient a Build-A-Bear Workshop stuffed animal.
