Susan Rowell, MD, MBA, FACS, is a nationally respected trauma and critical care surgeon with over 15 years of experience caring for severely injured and critically ill patients. While she treats all traumatic injuries, she specializes in the treatment of patients with traumatic brain injury.
Dr. Rowell is personally committed to providing outstanding care to every injured patient, and her devotion to ongoing research is one way she improves healthcare. As a National Institute of Health (NIH)-funded researcher, she has served as the primary investigator and first author on a multinational clinical trial that showed improved survival for patients with traumatic brain bleeding. Dr. Rowell’s research has changed the way patients with traumatic brain injury are treated across the world. Dr. Rowell is also actively involved in most of the major national trauma organizations and has participated in the development of many of the national guidelines that are followed by trauma centers across the country to guide the treatment of injured patients.
In addition to her clinical practice and research, Dr. Rowell is a passionate educator who has received multiple awards for outstanding teaching and excellence in surgery. Dr. Rowell has trained and served as a mentor for many trauma surgeons who now practice all across the country.
