My name is Saara Kaviany. I'm a Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Physician, so I take patients with cancer diagnoses or immune disorders or bone marrow failures who need a bone marrow transplant through that process. I love people and I really, really, really enjoy taking care of kids.
And I enjoy that kind of caregiver aspect of my role. And I love building relationships and getting to know people. And to me, being a physician, being a provider, especially pediatric provider, I just have one big, huge family. And every patient that I meet, I approach in that way.
And I had great role models and great mentors as young as my pediatrician's office. I know, I'm weird. I loved going there. But my pediatrician's office and my mentors, each step of the way, showed me what it's like to be a wholesome provider, to really look at the patient as a whole. And I knew I wanted to mirror that in my career. So that decision was probably the easiest decision I've made in my life.
And I always strive to be there. My patients have direct access to me. I want to make sure that I'm providing not only the best medical guidance for them, but I'm seeing past their numbers and their labs and I'm seeing their families as a whole and vacations they want to take or birthday parties they want to throw, and really work with them to incorporate quality of life into what we're doing, which is often so stressful.
I love being here at Comer. For me, I wanted to be at a program that saw my vision and aligned with my vision and allowed for me to be the best provider I can be for my patients. And that includes access to resources, that includes the patient population that we're serving, who we're providing outreach to.
And for me, as a bone marrow transplant physician who also takes care of patients with lots of immune disorders, I wanted to work as a part of a team where I knew there were experts in all the fields. My heart is the patients that I take to transplant, with non-malignant disorders. So that's patients with immune disorders.
And here at Comer, we've created a Comprehensive Immune Deficiency and Dysregulation Clinic called CIDD, C-I-D-D. We like to have some fun. And in that clinic, it's a multidisciplinary clinic where you not only get to see me, but you see infectious disease, rheumatology, gastroenterology, cardiology, depending on what your son or daughter needs and what the patient needs.
And from there, we work together to make sure we're providing the best diagnostic care, the best treatment options, including plus or minus bone marrow transplant if that's part of the journey that's in front of us . And working in that community and providing that to my patients is so important and I'm so lucky. And that clinic is my heart and soul, and I really, really enjoy having that collaboration with my colleagues to help further the field and to make sure we're providing cutting-edge therapies for our families.
