His research interests include factors impacting the results of ossiculoplasty surgery (middle ear bone reconstruction), management of Eustachian tube dysfunction and histopathology of the ear. His work has led to the development of multiple prostheses widely used to reconstruct the tiny bones within the middle ear when damaged. He is also developing novel medical treatments for managing cholesteatoma using photodynamic therapy.
An expert ear surgeon, Dr. Gluth has co-authored a comprehensive textbook on chronic ear infection and related ear surgery entitled The Chronic Ear, which has been translated into multiple languages. He is the current Executive Director of the Prosper Meniere Society, an international organization of physicians and researchers devoted to inner ear medicine and surgery. Due to his extensive knowledge and experience, Dr. Gluth has been invited to lecture extensively in academic departments nationally and abroad, educating the public and health care professionals on ear science and medicine.
