Isabel Casimiro, MD, PhD, is a highly skilled endocrinologist who diagnoses and manages a wide range of endocrine conditions. Dr. Casimiro delivers comprehensive care for patients with Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, lipid disorders (such as dyslipidemia, hyperlipidemia and hypercholesterolemia), transgender medicine, cardiovascular endocrinology and more.

As a physician-scientist, Dr. Casimiro is committed to using research to improve the lives of her endocrine patients. Currently, she is exploring how macrophage (a type of white blood cell) activation can cause inflammation that can ultimately result in metabolic disease. By investigating the 12/15-lipoxygenase enzyme in macrophages, Dr. Casimiro is working to understand how this pathway contributes to obesity and insulin resistance so she can offer better treatment options. Dr. Casimiro’s research has been published in several highly respected, peer-reviewed journals, including Obesity Science and Practice, Atherosclerosis and Physiological Reports.

Dr. Casimiro also has extensive experience providing gender affirming hormone therapy and improving education regarding transgender medicine for endocrinology fellows. Her work with transgender patients has been published in the Journal of the Endocrine Society and Transgender Health.
